The Town Green is honored to feature a new Windsor Military Memorial Wall, a monument recognizing Windsor Veterans who lost their lives in combat and military pilots who perished in the skies after departing from Sonoma County airfields.
The monument is situated adjacent to the flag poles, between the turf and the playground. The construction of the granite memorial was completed in early November 2023 and included the erection of the memorial wall, relocation of the Veterans Plaque, landscaping upgrades, a walkway and plaza, additional benches and seating, and replacement of trees in the area surrounding the monument.
The project was conceptualized over 20 years ago by Karen Alves, her father (Bill Dal Molin), and Harrison Rued, who wished to memorialize WWII airmen who flew from the Santa Rosa Army Air Field. Steve Lehmann, the President of the Windsor Historical Society did extensive research insuring the accuracy of the memorial content. The memorial wall brought their concept into fruition with the names of 86 airmen engraved in the granite. The memorial also honors Windsor area service members who gave their lives defending the United States in all wars.
