Hello, Windsor! The latest storm systems are behind us and spring is here -- I see a lot of greenery and flowers in full bloom. We live in a beautiful town!
We were very saddened to hear about sculptor Bruce Johnson's untimely death earlier this week. His striking old-growth redwood and copper sculpture, "The Offering," is featured in the roundabout at the entrance to the Oliver's shopping center, on Old Redwood Highway and Market Street. Our condolences go out to Bruce's family and friends. You can see more of his work throughout Sonoma County and beyond: https://formandenergy.com/

In Memoriam: Sculptor Bruce Johnson, “The Offering” Public Artwork
Sculptor Bruce Johnson, who created the Town of Windsor’s first public art installation, “The Offering,” died in an accident in his home studio earlier this week. This is a loss for Windsor, the art community, and everyone who has been touched by his work. Mr. Johnson created “Offering” – a 6,000-pound, salvaged redwood and copper sculpture that sits on the roundabout at Old Redwood Highway and Market Street, at the entrance to the Oliver’s shopping center. Read our full article about him. The bold and dramatic sculpture was one of 152 entries the Windsor Public Art Advisory Committee considered to express the theme “Art is Energizing the Community.” It took 10 people almost four hours to install “Offering,” which is on loan from Mr. Johnson, on Jan. 27, 2016. Watch a time-lapse video of the installation. “Making sculpture is a process of joy and exuberance of solitude and uncertainty, and back to joy and exuberance,” Mr. Johnson has said.
Serve on the Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury
Want to make a difference in Sonoma County? Consider serving on the county’s Civil Grand Jury, which plays an important role in investigating and reporting on local governmental operations to ensure they're conducted efficiently, honestly and in the best interest of the public. It is sometimes referred to as the "watchdog" of the community. Nineteen volunteers make up the Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury, which operates under the authority of the Sonoma County Superior Court. Volunteers dedicate 10 to 15 hours a week to serve. The results of Grand Jury investigations are documented in reports that lay out the findings of specific problems or issues and make recommendations for solutions. In recent years, topics included affordable housing, broadband access, emergency alerts and communications. April 17 is the deadline to apply for a year-long term, which begins in July. “Grand juries help to highlight problems and inefficiencies in local government, and their recommendations improve the services that taxpayers expect. We are always in need of more dedicated community members to serve in this role,” said Supervisor David Rabbitt, vice chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.
